Renowned recitation artistes read selected parts from two books authored by the founding president of the country Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at a programme held on Thursday at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Four artistes including Mohammad Ahkam Ullah, Laila Afroz, Rizina Wali Lina and Rafiqul Islam read selected parts from Mujib’s memoirs namely Ausamapta Atmajiboni and Karagarer Rojnamcha. The books give the readers a glimpse into the life of Sheikh Mujib and depict events like communal riots in Kolkata and Bihar, language movement, founding of Chhatra League and Awami League, formation of Jukta Front, Agartala conspiracy and more.
Mohammad Ahkam Ullah read from Ausamapta Atmajiboni and Karagarer Rojnamcha, while Laila Afroz, Rizina Wali Lina and Rafiqul Islam read from Karagarer Rojnamcha at the show, which was organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and Bangladesh Abriti Sommonoy Parishad marking National Mourning Day.
Ausamapta Atmajiboni was launched in June 2012. Publishing house The University Press Limited published the autobiography. Its English translation titled ‘The Unfinished Memories’ was also published.
The book was also published in India by Penguin Books and in Pakistan by Oxford University Press.
Karagarer Rojnamcha is the second memoir by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. It was published by Bangla Academy in 2017.
‘I want to thank the organisers for arranging such an informative show on Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The programme gave the audience a rare glimpse into the life of country’s founding president. The artistes deserve kudos for their wonderful performances’, Bushra Rahman, an audience member, told New Age.
