Bollywood actress Vidya Balan is all set to play the role of former Indian prime minister Indira Gandhi in a web series based on Sagarika Ghose’s book, Indira: India’s Most Powerful prime minister.
Though earlier it was discussed that the same would be made into a film, Vidya reportedly mentioned the reason why it would now be made into a web series.
‘There is too much material for it to be made into a film. So, we decided to turn it into a web series. We don't know how many seasons we will be allotting to it. We are in the process of putting together a team,’ said the actress in an interview with Mid-Day.
The show will reportedly be produced by Ronnie Screwvala. The web series may take a while as the material is still being put together. When asked if the makers would seek permissions from the Gandhi family before they begin filming, Vidya said that won’t be done as that they already have the rights of the book.
It was announced in January that she had acquired the rights to author-journalist Sagarika Ghose's book Indira: India’s Most Powerful Prime Minister.
She also shared that research is ongoing so that the script does justice to the late Gandhi. The actress also added that the team cannot put a timeline as to when the project will go on floors.
Born in Palghat, Kerala, Vidya Balan acted in her first Bollywood film 'Parineeta' in 2006. Begum Jaan, Kahaani 2, Ekk Albela, Hamari Adhuri Kahani, Mahabharat, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara!, Kahaani and The Dirty Picture are names of some Vidya Balan starring popular films.
