The administration of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology on Wednesday declared to keep close the residential halls of the students during Eid-ul-Azha vacation going to be started from August 19 in fear of clashes between different groups of Bangladesh Chhatra League.
The university vice-chancellor Professor Farid Uddin Ahmed made the announcement in the afternoon while he was addressing a discussion programme as chief guest held at the mini-auditorium on the campus, marking the National Mourning Day.
The vice-chancellor said that a fear of clashes between different groups of BCL has been prevailed on the campus. As a result, the university authorities have decided to close the university halls during the Eid vacation, he added.
‘Because of the fear all residential student halls would be kept shut during the Eid vacation between August 19 and August 31 to ensure the students’ security,’ the VC said.
Earlier, the SUST administration also had kept shut the student halls during the summer and Eid-ul-Fitr vacation.
