Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission has again shifted the deadline for mobile number portability service launch to October 1 from July 31 as operators failed to accomplish their work by the time.
To this end, the commission amended the MNPS licensing guidelines at a recently-held special meeting presided over by its acting chairman Md Jahurul Haque, an official of the commission told New Age.
As per the MNP licensing guidelines, mobile phone operators were supposed to launch the service by May 30. The deadline was shifted to July 31 at mobile phone operators’ request.
BTRC made the amendment in line with a decision made at a meeting in presence of prime minister’s ICT affairs adviser Sajeed Wazed Joy at Gana Bhaban in July.
Besides, the commission at the meeting also amended a clause of the MNP licensing guidelines to withdraw the specification of Tk 30 charge on the mobile phone subscribers for availing the service.
The previous MNP guidelines would require a transfer charge Tk 30 payable by the recipient to the MNPS provider for each porting. For the same porting, the charge payable by the subscriber to the recipient will not be more than the transfer charge.
The new amendment, however, said that there would be a porting charge payable by the subscriber to the recipient operator for each successful porting. This charge shall be payable to the MNPS operator by the recipient operator.
The clause also said that there must be a transfer charge payable by the recipient operator to the MNPS operator for each successful porting.
Under the amended provision, BTRC would set the porting charge that would be applicable on the subscribers and it would be set at Tk 50 instead of Tk 30, a senior official of the commission said.
Oh the other hand, the MNP transfer charge that would be paid by the recipient operator of a customer to the MNPS would be set at Tk 100 instead of Tk 150-Tk 170.
