The Rapid Action Battalion on Saturday seized six buses of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan in Dhaka for running without route permit.
‘The members of RAB-1 and RAB-4 seized six buses of Jabal-e-Noor from different places of Dhaka for plying them in spite of cancellation of the route permit for the transport company,’ said a text sent to media by the battalion Saturday afternoon.
The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on August 1 cancelled the route permit of Jabal-e-Noor Paribahan and scrapped the registration of its two racing buses, one of which ploughed through a crowd of students and people waiting for transports at Dhaka’s Kurmitola on July 29, killing two students on the spot and injuring 12.
As school and college students took to the streets after the accident demanding road safety, the battalion on July 30 said that they arrested five staff of three Jabal-e-Noor buses.
Amid the student protests across the country, the battalion arrested Md Shahadat Hossain, the owner of the bus that killed the two students, on August 1.
The student protests flared up across the country but ended on the ninth straight day on August 6 following attacks on the protesters by police and ruling Awami League and its associate body activists in Dhaka and elsewhere.
