Border Guard Bangladesh soldiers arrested three people and seized 635 pieces of gold bars weighing about 75 kilograms in two separate raids on Thursday night and Friday morning at Benapole in Jessore.
The 49-Border Guard Battalion commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Hoque, said they being tipped off raided Narkelbaria frontier at about 9:30pm on Thursday, arrested Md Mohuiuddin, 35, of Shikarpur under the Benapole Port Police Station and seized 624 gold bars weighing 72.759 kilograms.
The BGB officer said they also seized a knife during the drive.
In another raid at Shikri frontier under the same police station, the BGB personnel arrested Safura Khatun, 62, of Daulatpur village and Md Israfil of Bhaberber village under the same upazila and seized 11 gold bars weighing 2 kilograms from their possession at about 8:00am on Friday.
Ariful said the three were taking the gold bars to India.
The arrested were handed over to Benapole port police along with the gold bars and the knife after filing two cases against them.
