The forthcoming Bangabandhu Gold Cup International Football Tournament will be held in Dhaka and Sylhet, the Bangladesh Football Federation said on Thursday.
BFF president Kazi Salahuddin said that they would hold the group stage of the six-nation tournament in Sylhet from October 1 to 6 while the semi-finals and final would be held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka from October 7 to 12.
The BFF signed an agreement with K Sports, the commercial rights holder company, on Thursday where the officials revealed the developments.
According to the agreement, K Sports will bear all the expenses of the tournament in addition to providing the BFF Tk one crore.
‘It’s really difficult to hold an invitational tournament due to busy schedule of the football playing nation,’ said BFF president at the press conference.
BFF president said that the Philippines and Palestine have already agreed to take part in the tournament while last edition’s champions Nepal gave verbal consent.
‘We are contacting with some other Asian countries including Oman, Chinese Taipei, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Laos and we are hoping to finalise the participating teams within next 10 days,’ said Salahuddin.
K Sports chief executive officer Fahad Karim among others attended the press conference.
