Two suspected drug peddlers were killed in two separate ‘gunfights’ with the police in Rajshahi and Chandpur districts on early Thursday.
The latest death took to 215 the number of people killed in the ongoing nationwide anti-drug drive since May 15.
Besides, the police arrested a drug peddler and seized five kilograms of heroin from Gabtoli in Dhaka Wednesday night.
Police said Thursday’s deceased in Rajshahi, Md Manik, 30, of village Notunpara under Charghat upazila in the district, was named in at least thirteen cases but the identity of the Chandpur victim, a 30-year-old male, could not be known until evening.

Islam, reported that Manik was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the police at Muktarpur area under Charghat upazial in the district on Thursday at about 2:45am.
OC Nazrul claimed that they seized one pistol, one bullet and 50 bottles of Phenesedyl from the spot.
In Chandpur, the unidentified drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with the police at Shahrasti upaizla area in the district at about 3:15am on Thursday, United News of Bangladesh reports, quoting Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Shahrasti Police Station.
The police officer said that they seized one pipe-gun, six bullets and 83 Yaba tablets from the spot.
In Dhaka, a team of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Nizam, 35, and seized five kilograms of heroin from Gabtoli Bus Terminal on Wednesday 9:20pm, said metropolitan police’s deputy commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman.
During primary interrogation, Nizam revealed that he had been bringing the drugs to Dhaka from Chapainawabganj district border, he said.
Besides, the metropolitan police arrested 48 suspected drug peddlers and addicts and seized 2,657 Yaba tablets, 551 grams of heroin, 6 kilograms of hemp and 13 ampules of injectable drugs from their possession in 24 hours ending Thursday 6:00am.
