Over 2 lakh Yaba pills seized in Dhaka

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion members at Munshirhat College road area of Chauddagram in Comilla on early Wednesday
The latest death took to 213, the number of people killed in the ongoing nationwide anti-drug drives since May 15.
RAB in an anti-drug drive also arrested four suspects and seized 2.06 lakh Yaba tablets from their possession, the elite force said on Wednesday.
New Age correspondent in Comilla, quoting Major Ataur Rahman of Crime Prevention Company in the district, reported that suspected drug peddler Faruk Mia, 34, son of Momtaz Uddin of Ramra area of Chauddagram was killed in a gunfight with the RAB personnel during an anti-drug drive.
RAB seized one pistol and huge number of Yaba tablets from the spot, he said.
Chauddagram police station officer-in-charge Abu Faisal said Faruk was named in at least five cases under narcotics control act.
In Dhaka, RAB arrested four people — covered van driver Md Manik Mia, 27, his assistant Md Arif, 22, truck driver Masum Mia, 40, and his assistant Md Abdul Khalek, from their vehicles that had been carrying Yaba tablets, said RAB legal and media wing director Mufti Mahmud Khan in a press conference at its Karwanbazar media centre in Dhaka.
The four were arrested from Purbachal area on Tuesday night and a total of two lakh and six thousand Yaba tablets were seized from them, he said.
Besides, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 62 people during their anti-drug drives at different places in the capital in 24 hours ending Wednesday 6:00am and seized 4,021 Yaba tablets, 852 grams of heroin, 1.717 kilograms of hemp, 445 bottles of Phensedyl and 12 bottles of foreign liquor from their possession, the metropolitan police officials said.
In Feni, the RAB arrested seven suspected peddlers in separate ant-drug drives in Lalpool and Mahipal areas in Feni and seized 39,100 Yaba tablets and 1,709 bottles of Phensedyl from their possession, RAB said in a text message on Wednesday.
