Protests on demanding justice for Payel murder

Hundreds of people on Friday gathered on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Chittagong demanding punishment to the Hanif Pariban employees who were reportedly responsible for the death of North South University student Saidul Rahman Payel on July 21.
Swandeep Association organised the protest rally at City Gate area at about 11:00am.
Addressing the rally, Payel’s father Golam Mowla said prime minister lost her dearest family members in 1975 and she knew the pain of losing someone. We wanted to meet her so that she took steps to ensure trial of the people responsible for the death of Payel, he added.
Daily Samakal Chittagong bureau chief Sarwar Sumon, Payel’s elder brother Golam Mostafa, uncle Kamruzzaman Chowdhury, Golam Rasel, Fahad Chowdhury, North
Pahartoli ward councillor Johurul Alam, South Kattali ward councillor Morshed Akter also spoke among others.
After Payel’s death police arrested bus driver Jalal, supervisor Foysal and assistant supervisor Jony of Hanif Paribahan.
Earlier, on Tuesday city dwellers besieged the Hanif Paribahan counter at the port city’s Garibullah Shah Mazar Gate area.
Payel got off the Dhaka-bound bus from Chittagong at Gazaria in Munshiganj when the bus got stuck in traffic jam on July 21. When the bus began to move fast, Payel tried to get on the bus hurriedly and dashed against the door of the bus.
He fell down on his face and his nose was bleeding.
Bus employees threw his body to a water-body assuming him dead.
He was found dead on July 23.
