Theatre troupe Dhaka Padatik staged its production Trial of Surya Sen at Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Friday.
The play, which is the troupe’s 38th production, brings to light India’s history during British colonial period.
Trial of Surya Sen, written and directed by Masum Aziz, depicts the trial of revolutionary Masterda Surya Sen, who is noted for leading the 1930 Chittagong armoury raid in Chittagong during the British rule.
The play begins with Masterda Surya Sen’s trial in progress in a court room. A lawyer questions Surya Sen about the activities of anti-British revolutionaries as he stands in front of the judge. As the play moves forward the audience gets a glimpse of the anti-British movement in Chittagong in 1930s.
Actor Nader Chowdhury played the character of Surya Sen. Hasna Hena and Mahbuba Haq Kumkum played the characters of Pritilata Waddedar and Kalpana Dutta respectively, while Mahbubur Rahman Toni played the character of the lawyer.
