Leaders of newly-formed Left Democratic Alliance on Thursday said that after the city corporation elections it was proved that holding free, fair and credible election under ruling government would not be possible.
Coordinator of LDA, a combine of eight left parties, and Revolutionary Workers Party general secretary Saiful Huq in a press conference at Communist Party of Bangladesh central office, also said that after city elections in Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal on July 30 it was proved that holding credible elections would be impossible for the Election Commission.
They termed the elections in three cities as farcical and said that massive use of undisclosed money made the elections controversial.
The LDA demanded cancellation of the election results and reelection in three cities.
They also demanded the resignation of the government and reconstitution of the Election Commission before the announcement of the general election schedule and asked for holding national election under an acceptable interim government.
General secretary of the Socialist Party of Bangladesh Khalequzzaman, CPB general secretary Mohammad Shah Alam, SPB (Marxist) central leader Shubrangshu Chakrabortty, Democratic Revolutionary Party general secretary Mushrefa Mishu, Ganasanghati Andolan central leader Firoz Ahmed, convener of Samajtantrik Andolan Hamidul Haque among others attended the press conference.
