Abu Taher’s solo show begins at Chitrak

Ekushey Padak winning artist Abu Taher is displaying selected artworks at a solo show which began at Gallery Chitrak in Dhanmondi on Saturday.
Secretary of cultural affairs ministry Md Nasir Uddin Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition as the chief guest. Art critic professor Moinuddin Khalid was present at the inauguration ceremony as special guest and artist Rafiqun Nabi presided over the programme.
Abu Taher has participated in significant numbers of solo and group exhibitions held at both home and abroad.
The show titled ‘Retrospective Solo Painting Exhibition’ features fifty paintings done in three mediums including oil on canvas, acrylic on canvas and water colour on paper.
A displayed painting titled ‘Mother’ depicts a mother’s love for her child. The painting, which was created by Taher in 2007, shows a mother breastfeeding her child.
Another displayed painting titled ‘Bina Biduni’, painted by Taher in 1991, shows a girl playing Bina.
The painting titled ‘Flood’, painted by the artist in 2009, depicts sufferings of people affected by floods and other natural disasters.
Besides, Taher has displayed paintings titled ‘Memories 1971’, ‘Mother and Daughter’, ‘Rakhal’, ‘Ullash’, ‘Durga’, ‘Flood’, ‘Prosadon’, ‘Agration-3’, ‘Homeage to Aminul Islam’, ‘Composiotion’ and others at the show.
Abu Taher has received many prestigious awards including Shilpakal Purushkar in 1974, Ekushey Padak in 1994, Atish Dipankar Award in 2007, Sultan Padak in 2011, Berger Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012 and others.
The exhibition will remain open for all until August 8.
