Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said that Bangladesh Nationalist Party boycotted the mayoral election of Barisal City Corporation only to make the city elections controversial.
While giving the party’s reaction at a press conference at Dhanmandi-3 office of the party president Sheikh Hasina at 5:00pm, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minster, said the city mayoral elections of Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal held in a free and fair manner on the day.
But some irregularities took place in some polling centres in the city elections, Quader said.
‘BNP is trying to make an issue before the national election to make the next election controversial,’ Quader said.
Prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s political advisor HT Imam, AL presidium member Mohammad Abdur Razzaque, central leaders Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury attended the press conference among others.
