Molla Jalal of news agency NNB was elected president of a faction of Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists.
Chief election commissioner Alamgir Hossain came up with the announcement at the Jatiya Press Club at 12:30 pm on Saturday.
Although the election was held on July 13 last, the results of the president post remained pending as the presidential candidates sought recounting of the votes of the post.
Before formal announcement of the results today, the votes were recounted in presence of the three candidates vied for the post of president.
Molla Jalal bagged 974 votes while Omar Faruk of BSS 972 votes and Abdul Jalil Bhuyian of The Daily Star 733 votes.
Syed Ishtiaque Reza of GTV and Reaz Haider Chowdhury of Bangladesh Pratidin (Chattogram) were elected vice presidents while Shaban Mahmud of Bangladesh Pratidin and Dip Azad of Nagorik TV were elected secretary general and treasurer respectively.
Besides, Abdul Majid and Mohsin Quazi were elected joint secretaries general, while Barun Bhowmick Nayan was elected office secretary.
Sheikh Mamunur Rashid, Nure Jannat Akhter Sima, Sebika Rani and Khairuzzaman Kamal were elected executive committee members of the BFUJ.
