Manisha Chakraborty, the mayor candidate for Barisal City Corporation from Socialist Party of Bangladesh, alleged on Saturday that the Election Commission had failed to create the necessary environment for holding the polls fairly.
BCC’s first ever female mayor candidate alleged that although her party had assigned agents at each polling centre, it was uncertain if they would be able to execute their duties due to the threats being issued to them.
She made the comments at a press briefing organised at the party office at Fakirbari Road in the city on the last day of electioneering.
Manisha alleged that the returning officer was not seen taking measures against the ruling party members, who had violated the election code of conduct since the day electioneering began but actions were taken very promptly against members of other parties.
She urged the voters to elect an honest and educated mayor for the city by voting for her electoral symbol of ladder.
District president of Socialist Party of Bangladesh Imran Habib Rummon was also present at the briefing among other party leaders and activists.
The BCC election will be held on Monday.
