The commissioner of the Election Commission, Mahbub Talukdar, on Friday said a silent and peaceful environment is existing in and around the city ahead of the city corporation election slated to be held on July 30.
The mayoral candidates of Barisal City Corporation have promised for a fair, free and impartial election, said the commissioner while exchanging views with all mayoral candidates at the regional EC office in the city.
‘They (candidates) promised to continue their support to make the elections fair,’ he added.
The environment will be maintained until the election day and the election will be fairer, compared to those in Rajshahi and Khulna cities, he hopped.
BCC returning officer Md Mujibur Rahman Talukder presided over the meeting while Awami League mayoral candidate Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah, BNP aspirant Majibur Rahman Sarwar, Jatiya Party’s Iqbal Hossain Taposh and Islamic Movement’s candidate Saidur Rahman Mahbub, among others, were present at the meeting.
