Artistes of Sheikh Shahid Shilpigoshthi entertained the audience singing covers of songs rendered by legendary folk singer Abbasuddin at a programme held on Thursday at Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Artistes sang Abbasuddin rendered popular folk songs like Pran sakhire oi shon, O ki gariwal bhai, Amay bhasailire, Amay eto ratey, Amar haarkala, Majhi baiya jao re and others at the programme, which also featured discussion on Abbasuddin.
Sheikh Shahid Shilpigoshthi organised the programme to celebrate Abbasuddin Ahmed’s 118th birth anniversary, which will be celebrated on October 27.
Former audit and comptroller general Masud Ahmed and Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts president Hasanur Rahman Bachchu, among others, were present as discussants at the programme.
‘Abbasuddin’s songs depict the daily lives of common people’, said Masud Ahmed.
Following the discussion, singer Sjuma Akter Mallika began the cultural show covering popular bhawaiya song Pran sakhire oi shon, which was popularised by Abbasuddin Ahmed.
M Shahidullah sang another widely popular bhawaiya song O ki gariwal bhai, while Shahnaz Parvin rendered Tui mor nidoya kaliyare.
Besides, Nannu Mandal, Pinku Gazi, Nazrul and Sajan sang Abbasuddin rendered diverse songs at the programme.
