A three-day performance art festival began on Thursday through presentation of eight artists highlighting the heritage sites of Dhaka.

Fifteen artists participate at the festival titled ‘Shilper Shohor Dhaka’, which has been organised by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy to promote the upcoming Asian Art Biennale.

The academy director general Liquat Ali Lucky inaugurated the fest in front of Music and Dance Centre.

After the inauguration, 8 artists performed in three venues: Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy premises, Shahbagh and Dhaka University.

At BSA, Sumona Akther presented the sorry state of heritage sites in Dhaka through her presentation. Wearing a burkha, the artist walked with a handycam in her hand and shot random videos while walking.

Shuvo Shah performed in front of Dhaka Gate on DU campus. He ripped down posters off the pillars of Dhaka Gate to symbolise the need for proper maintenance of the heritage sites.

‘Dhaka is an ancient city. Through my performance I tried to grow awareness on heritage sites of the capital which have been eclipsed by high rise buildings and hoardings’, said Shuvo.

A lot of people were present and saw the performance ignoring the rain.

Besides, Sujon Mahbub presented a travelling performance from BSA to Shahbagh, Abu Naser Rubi performed at TSC, Imran Sohel performed at Doyel Chattar, Sanjay Chakrabarti performed at TSC and Central Shaheed Minar, Asim Halder Sagor performed at Bangladesh National Museum and Zahid Hasan performed at Central Public Library.

Today, Farah Naz Moon, Jwel A Rob and Joydev Rowaza and Arpita Singha Lopa will perform respectively at Lalkhuti, Shyambazar, Beauty Boading and Sadarghat.

Syed Mohmmad Zakir will perform at Kamalapur Railway Station, Farhana Akther will perform at Gulshan and Sarker Nasrin Tuntun will perform at Jatiya Sangsad on Saturday.
