Four ‘robbers’ killed in ‘gunfights’

At least four suspected robbers were killed in three incidents of what law enforcement agencies termed ‘gunfights’ in Jessore, Narail and Chapainawabganj early Tuesday.
Of the deceased, two were killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of suspected robbers, one was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police in Narail and the other was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion in Chapainawabganj, police and RAB officials said.
New Age correspondent in Jessore, quoting Monirampur Police Station officer in-charge Mokarram Hossain, reports that two unidentified suspected robbers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ between two groups of robbers on Pulerhat - Rajganj road in Gangulia Jamtala area under Monirampur upazila in the district around 2:00am.
The police officer said that Khedapad police outpost in-charge sub-inspector Ainuddin informed them that two groups of robbers were locked in a ‘gunfight’ in the area. Based on the information, a team of police from Monirampur Police Station rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies of the two unidentified suspected robbers, he added.
The OC also claimed that they seized four sharp weapons and other materials used for robbery.
In Narail, another unidentified robbery suspect was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with police at Kachubaria of Lohagara upazila in the district around 3:00am, our correspondent in Jessore also reports, quoting Lohagara Police Station officer-in-charge Prabir Kumar Biswas.
The police officer said that the ‘gunfight’ took place when the robber gang opened fire on a team of patrol police who also retaliated by firing.
OC Prabir said that they seized a one-shooter gun, two bullets, two sharp weapons and a hammer from the spot.
New Age correspondent in Chapainawabganj, quoting assistant superintendent of police Abu Khayer of RAB-5, reports that suspected robber Faruque Hossain, 35, of Golapbazar under Shibganj in the district was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with a team of RAB on Shibganj-Choudala road in Mohammadpur area under Shibganj upazila at about 1:30am on Tuesday.
The RAB official claimed that they also seized one pistol, bullets and sharp weapons from the spot.
