Rapid Action Battalion busted a ‘arms factory’ in a raid early Sunday, arrested two people and seized 20 illegal firearms in forest areas of Kalarmarchara under island upazila of Maheshkhali in Cox’s Bazar.
The detained were identified as Mohammad Shahidullah, 38, and Abdul Hakim, 31. They were involved in making and selling illegal firearms, said senior assistant superintendent Md Mimtanur Rahman of RAB-7.
The firearms include locally made light guns, country made guns, long barrel guns and double barrel guns, the RAB official said, adding that they also seized bullets, gunpowder and raw materials for making firearms during the raid.
RAB conducted the raid on a tip-off that there were several illegal firearms making factories in the forest areas of Kalarmarchara under Howanok union of Maheshkhali, he said.
‘Two men were detained and some others managed to flee the scene sensing presence of the RAB team,’ he said.
RAB took the duo and continued the raid to find out such factories in the hill areas of Maheshkhali, Mimtanur added.
A case was filed with Moheskhali police station in this connection, he said.
