Dancer-choreographer Ananya Wafi Rahman and violinist Mahmudul Hasan respectively presented kathak and violin recitals at a duet show held on Friday at National Art Gallery of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Ananya Wafi Rahman commenced the show with a vandana, a short piece usually performed by disciple to pay reverence to guru. The artiste then presented a thaat sequence, which features slow graceful movements of wrists, neck and eyebrows.
The dancer, thereafter, presented short dance pieces known as amod, tukra, paran, tehai and others.
Besides, Ananya presented a dance recital synchronised with a Meera Bhajan, devotional songs composed by 16th century mystic poet Meera. The songs glorify Hindu deity Krishna.
Violinist Mahmudul Hasan began his performance presenting raga jog, a late evening melodious raga.
Hasan ended the show presenting a riveting recital of the light and playful raga jhinjhoti, which is usually rendered on late evening or at the second quarter of the night.
Following the performances, thespian Ataur Rahman, Bangladesh Dance Artistes Association president Minu Haque and kathak dancer Saju Ahmed congratulated the artistes.
The programme was jointly organised by Nrityamancha and Shastriya Parishad.
