At least three more ‘drug peddlers’ were killed in two separate ‘gunfights’ in Chittagong and Comilla early Friday.
Of the deceased, two were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion members at Moti Jharna area in Chittagong city and the other was killed in a gunfight with police in front of the Daudkandi Hassanpur Government College under Daudkandi upazila in Comilla.
With the three, at least 191 suspected drug peddlers were killed in the ongoing nationwide anti-drug drive since May 15. Most of them were killed in ‘gunfights’ with the police and the RAB.
Police began the anti-drug drive on May 18 and RAB on May 4.
New Age Staff Correspondent in Chittagong reported that two unidentified suspected drug peddlers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with RAB men at the port city’s Moti Jharna point of Khulshi area at about 1:30am on Friday.
Rab-7 Assistant Superintendent of Chittagong Police Mimtanur Rahman said they found the bodies of the
two suspected drug peddlers after a brief gunfight at the place.
He said that the elite force seized 85 kilograms of hemp, one firearm and five bullets from the spot
New Age Correspondent in Comilla reported that suspected drug peddler Khorshed Alam alias Kana Khorshed, 48, of Gongganogor village under Dabidwer upazila in the district was killed in ‘gunfight’ with the police in front of Daudkandi Hassanpur Government College at about 1:30am on Friday.
Daudkandi Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Alamgir Hossain said a special team of Daudkandi police started searching the vehicles on the highway when the incident happened.
He claimed that as they challenged a private car, the people from the car opened fire at the police and police also retaliated by firing.
At one stage of the exchange of both sides, drug businessman Khorshed got seriously injured.
The injured suspect was rescued and taken to Kumake Hospital where he died, the police officer said.
He said that police also seized the private car, 80 kilograms of hemp, one pipe gun and one bullet from the spot.
The police officer said that Khorshed was named in 13 cases filed with different police stations of Comilla, Dhaka, and Narayanganj.
