The Anti-Corruption Commission on Thursday conducted a drive at different Hajj agencies at Purana Paltan area in the capital in an attempt to find irregularities.
ACC spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharjee said that during the drive the team found a good number of agencies sent less than 75 pilgrims while there was a provision of sending at least 150 pilgrims by an agency.
He said that during the drive the agencies failed to show the documents of house rent in Makkah, receipts of service charges and other necessary documents.
The team found that a Hajj agency was allowed to send pilgrims to Saudi Arabia even though it had evaded taxes amounting Tk 40 lakh last year, the official said.
The commission would take necessary action in this regard after getting reports from the team over the drive, he said.
ACC director general Munir Chowdhury said that the commission would continue its drive to wipe out the illegal syndicate in the Hajj sector.
