Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said no gold went missing from the Bangladesh Bank vault.
Responding to a question from reporters at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minster, said, ‘As far as we know the case of reduction of gold in the vault was a clerical error.’
Qader went to the playground to see the development of preparations for according reception to the Awami League president and prime minister Sheikh Hasina on July 21.
If any irregularity was found in the investigation into the reported vault mismanagement, the responsible would get exemplary punishment, Quader assured.
Referring to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir’s complaint that the government failed to stop irregularities in the banking sector and destroyed it, Quader, said that BNP leaders had no right to make such comments as corruption was rife during their (BNP) regime.
Joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif, Jahangir Kabir Nanak, central leaders Ashim Kumar Ukil, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim and Abdus Sobhan Golap accompanied Quader.
