Businesspeople in Chittagong on Wednesday urged the government to shun discriminatory attitude towards them to save the port city.
The axel load control stations on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and the lone VAT
inspection centre of Mirsarai were examples of malevolence towards the traders of the port city, they said at a view exchange meeting.
They said if necessary they would seek the help of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Wednesday organised the meeting at Bangabandhu Conference Hall of World Trade Centre, Chittagong on ‘overall situation of trade and business including suspension of axel load control station in Dhaka–Chittagong Highway’.
CCCI president Mahbubul Alam said that the government should set up more axel load control stations in other areas of the country or they should shut the two stations on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway.
Prime Mover, Trailer owners Workers Association Chittagong president Abu Bakar Siddique slammed the role of members of parliament elected from Chittagong.
CCCI vice-president Syed Jamal Ahmed, director Zahurul Alam, Shops Owners Association president Salamat Ullah, Consumers Association Bangladesh Chittagong chapter general secretary Iqbal Bahar Saberi, Clearing and Forwarding Agents Association general secretary Imam Hossain Bilu, Inter-District Transport Owners Association general secretary Hamidur Rahman also spoke in the meeting.
