Theatre troupe Bahubachan staged its recent play Aniket Sandhya depicting sufferings of elderly people at Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday.
Written by Indian playwright Chandan Sen and directed by Ahram Alo, the play brings to light how elderly people are looked down in single families.
Aniket Sandhya, which literally means homeless evening, revolves around an octogenarian singer-composer Mukherjee who lives with his widower son Karnadev, grandson and grand daughter-in-law.
Mukherjee finds himself isolated and neglected by everyone in his family. He recollects his early days when his house
was a centre of cultural activities.
One day Mukherjee’s grandson and grand daughter-in-law decides to send him to an old age home as they are expecting a new baby.
However, as Mukherjee prepares to go to an old age home his son Karnadev also joins him as Karnadev knows he too will be neglected by others soon.
Bahubachan artistes Arham Alo, Nur Rehan, Mahmud, Rumana, Toufiqur Rahman and others acted in the play.
