A suspected robber was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion soldiers at Bhaturia village of Harinakunda upazila in Jhenaidah on Tuesday night.
RAB-6 company commander at Jhenaidah Golam Morshed said victim Amirul Islam Pancha, in his forties, of the village, was in at least 13 cases lodged with different police stations, mostly for robbery.
He said they on Tuesday night set a check post at Bhaturia village where a group of robbers, sensing the presence of RAB, opened fire on them at about 11:45pm.
He said that RAB also retaliated by firing, triggering a ‘gunfight’ between the RAB and suspected robbers.
As the ‘gunfight’ ended and suspected robbers fled away, he said they searched the area and found bullet-hit Amirul in a critical condition and took him to Harinakundu Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctors declared him dead.
The RAB official said they seized a firearm, two bullets and a knife from the spot.
