At least 592 women and girls were raped including 98 incidents of gang-rape across the country as at least 2063 women and girls were victims of different forms of torture in six months from January to June this year, said a report of Bangladesh Mahila Parishad.
BMP disclosed the report on Monday based on reporting of the incidents in 14 national newspapers.
The report said besides the incidents of rape, 61 girls and women escaped raping as attempts were made to rape them.
Besides, at least 10 women and girls were victims of acid throwing and two of them died.
At least 77 women and girls were abducted, the report said, and 13 were victims of trafficking of which four were sold at brothels.
Besides, 51 women were killed for dowry and 62 were tortured for dowry.
The report said at least 268 women and girls were killed for different reasons and attempts were made to kill 27 others.
The report said three house maids were killed, eight were tortured and two died by suicide due to torture.
It said said 188 women and girls were victims of mysterious death, 154 died by suicide, 11 died by suicide being sexually harassed, nine attempted to die by suicide and 15 were provoked to die by suicide.
Besides, seven women and girls were victims of fatwa, 171 were victims of physical torture, three were tortured by police and 20 were victims of forced marriage.
