Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday said he was not sure whether the Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders and activists had carried on the attack on Dhaka University teachers and students at Central Shaheed Minar.
Responding to a question regarding the attack, Quader, also the road transport and bridges minster, said, ‘Now, there is no committee of Bangladesh Chhatra League. So, I am not sure whether leaders and activists of Chhatra League were behind the attack or somebody in the name of Chhatra League was responsible.’
Quota reform protestors under the banner Sadharan Shikkhartibrinda organised the human chain joined by students, teachers, guardians and conscious citizens at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka on Sunday.
Chhatra League activists obstruct them from holding scheduled human chain at Shaheed Minar.
Quader advised the protesters seeking quota reform to keep confidence in Awami League president Sheikh Hasina and wait for her steps on quota reform issue.
As Sheikh Hasina had made pledges, she had formed a high power committee to take decision on quota reform, Quader said.
Quader was speaking at a press conference at Dhanmandi office of the AL president after a meeting with the party secretaries and available central executive committee members.
The central conference of Chhatra League was held in the capital on May 11 and 12, but its committee was not announced so far.
The ruling Awami League would not violate electoral code of conducts in the upcoming city corporation elections.
Elections in three cities Rajshahi, Sylhet and Barisal will be held on July 30.
‘We shall help the Election Commission so that they can work independently in the elections,’ Quader said.
AL joint general secretaries Dipu Moni, Abdur Rahman, secretaries Hasan Mahmud, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, Ashim Kumar Ukil, SM Kamal Hossain AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Sujit Roy Nandi and others attended the meeting.
