The country’s 62 companies on Sunday received National Export Trophy 2014-15 under 28 categories for their extraordinary performance in export earnings.
Commerce minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the trophies among the companies at a programme held at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.
Out of 62 companies, 28 received gold trophies, 20 silver and 14 bronze trophies.
The government awarded gold trophy to Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Limited as the highest exporter company overall for the fourth consecutive year in the financial year 2014-15.
‘Business people have a significant contribution to the country’s economic progress and we are committed to providing all-out support to the business community which is playing an important role in achieving vision 2021 set by the government,’ the commerce minister said in award ceremony.
He said that export earnings in the financial year 2017-18 met the target and readymade garment sector exceeded its target and hopefully the country’s export earnings would surpass $60 billion, the target set by the government.
‘Export performance of our RNG sector is excellent but some quarters do not like it and they are trying to thwart our growth,’ Tofail said.
He said that the government extended time frame of Accord and Alliance for six months and it would not be extended any more after December 31 this year.
The minister also said that his ministry would bring necessary amendment to the export trophy policy so that the investors in the export processing zones could avail the award from next year.
Md Shafiul Islam Mohiuddin, president of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry, stressed the need of a predictable regulatory body for economic growth as business people used to suffer due to frequent shifts in policy.
‘The government is going to solve the problem of power supply; LNG is coming to resolve the gas crisis but business people want to know their prices,’ he said.
Mohiuddin alleged that country’s exporters were losing orders worth $23 billion per year due to delay in receiving product samples in airport.
