An activist of the United People’s Democratic Front, a Chittagong Hill Tracts-based political party, was shot dead by unidentified assailants at Alutila area of Matiranga upazila in Khagrachari on Thursday.
Organizer of UPDF district unit Michael Chakma claimed a group of armed motorcyclists carried out the attack on UPDF district branch activist Gyanendu Chakma, in his forties, at about 5:00pm and fled the scene immediately.
Gyanendu was staying in Alutila for some organisational duties, Michael added.
On information, police recovered the body from the spot and sent it to Khagrachari Sadar Hospital for autopsy, said Zakir Hossain, officer-in-charge of Matiranga police station.
