BE it getting drenched and creating awesome memories or relaxing indoor with a book, tea and munchies - we do look forward to monsoon. And guess what it is officially the start of monsoon season, and we are glad for the relief from the rising temperature. We, as a nation, have a very romantic relationship with monsoon. From poems to songs, food to festivals, clothes to clouds - monsoon influences them all. But with the romance of the rains also comes the problem of puddles and mud. The fascination starts to dull a bit in a day or two and we find ourselves braving against the challenges the monsoon season has to offer. This issue of Trends plans to discuss a few monsoon essentials that can keep the love for monsoon alive and make us rain- ready.

We can never survive a rainy season without an umbrella. Rainy season and umbrellas go hand in hand. This key accessory of monsoon comes useful in need and a fashionable one can surely add glamour to your monsoon look.
Gone are the days of huge, black mundane looking umbrellas. Out in the market, you can find variety of umbrellas in attractive colours, designs and styles. Some even can be folded into such small package that it can fit inside a handbag. Stores and market all over the town sell these umbrellas which are available between Tk 200 to Tk 350. Noir has recently launched transparent umbrellas to give yourself a chic look. Grab the umbrella of your choice and say goodbye to drenching in the rain.

Might not sound too appealing to the fashionistas but the next and the best shield from those heavy showers is a raincoat and especially if you are on the road and always moving from one place to another. Raincoats keep your hands free and help you to move around fast if you are on bikes or foot. Options are unlimited from colourful, PVC raincoats, high end fashionable ones.
Check out the big super stores like Meenabazar, Shwapno or Gulshan market, new market for the raincoat of your choice. Ranging somewhere between Tk 500 to Tk 1,000, a raincoat is a great investment.

Rain friendly clothes
What works best in monsoon is a synthetic material like georgette, nylon etc which dries up faster does not soak water. Readymade clothes of such materials are available or materials are available in Priyangon, Chadni Chawk, Gulshan Market, Pink City which can be turned into dress, top, kamiz or whatever design and style you want. When it comes to style, think basic, like short kamiz, cropped trousers, cropped palazzos, top and shirts. Save fancy designs for indoor parties and for everyday use stick to the basics.

Waterproof shoes
You might be a person who loves great shoes but during monsoon it definitely is not the time to show off those stilettos or pencil heels. Rather plastic or PVC flip-flops can be your best option. They are beautiful to look at and comfortable to wear and also ensure utility when you step out. If you have real outdoor activities and harsh rain to handle, gumboots also come handy. They leave you worryless and helps to keep shoes and feet dry.

Waterproof accessories
What looks fashionable and keeps all you stuff safe is a waterproof bag. It is a must because that is a holdall of all your stuff and a smart style can add more to your appearance, making you look trendy and stylish. A waterproof pouch can also be used to protect your essential goods. As we hardly get out of home without our gadgets, a waterproof cover is also essential in monsoon to keep your phone, Music player, tablet etc safe from the rains.
Available in Bashundhara city, New market, Gulshan market, these accessories range between Tk 250 to Tk 1,500 and can be found in different colours and designs. Pick the ones that suit you best and do not let rain spoil your stuff or mood.

Waterproof makeup
The entire above mentioned essential can surely save you from rain but cannot guarantee that not a drop of rain would touch you. And of course, you don’t want your makeup smudged all over right before a meeting or a get together, and no makeup can’t be the only option. So why worry and grab waterproof makeup products like mascara and eyeliner to the rescue. Available in all cosmetic store, the products will cost you Tk 250 and above depending on the product and brand. Do not forget to tame the wild hair that rain and humidity bring with them and spray some frizz control spray or balm to the hair. Looking your perfect self in monsoon will not dull the fun and festivities of monsoon.
