A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate’s court on Wednesday issued warrants for arrest of Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairman Khaleda Zia, now in jail, and senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy in a defamation case.
Metropolitan magistrate Abu Sayed passed the order after hearing a petition filed by pro-Awami League organisation Jananetri Parishad president AB Siddiq, also plaintiff of the case.
Earlier on June 19, the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court ordered submission of investigation report in a case filed against opposition leader Khaleda Zia for making ‘derogatory’ remarks about the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the Bangladesh Awami League.
Gayeshwar at a meeting at the Press Club on December 25, 2017 reportedly termed fools the freedom fighter died in the Liberation War.
Earlier on July 1, sub-inspector Jafor Ali of the Shahbagh police station submitted the probe report in the case.
AB Siddique filed the case against the two on January 5, 2016.
