The chairman of scandal-hit Hallmark Group, Jasmine Islam, was sentenced to three years’ rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday in a case filed for not submitting her wealth statement to the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Dhaka Special Judge’s Court-5 judge Md Akhtaruzzaman handed down the jail sentence in presence of Jasmine at the court room.
The court also fined her Tk 20 lakh and asked authorities concerned to realise the amount within two months.
Jasmine has been in jail since November 2016.
The ACC filed a case against Jasmine with Ramna police on December 12, 2013. Police submitted charge sheet against her on October 22, 2014.
The ACC on November 13, 2013 served a notice to Jasmine, asking her to submit her wealth statement to the commission within seven working days.
The deadline for submitting the statement was extended to December 4 on her appeal on November 24. But the Hallmark boss did not comply with the deadline.
Jasmine, wife of Hallmark Group managing director Tanvir Mahmud, was facing charges of misappropriating over Tk 1,568 crore.
