Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Tuesday expelled the party’s Sylhet city unit general secretary Badruzzaman Selim for violating the party’s ‘discipline’ and having specific allegation of ‘involved in activities against the ‘party’s interest’.

Badruzzaman Selim is contesting independently for mayor of Sylhet city corporation without getting BNP’s nomination.

BNP nominated incumbent Sylhet mayor Ariful Haque Chowdhury, also BNP’s national executive member, for mayoral poll in Sylhet city scheduled for July 30.

The last date of withdrawal of nomination paper was on Monday.

BNP in a press release signed by its assistant office secretary Taiful Islam Tipu expelled Selim from all posts of the party including primary member.

BNP also expelled Mymensingh district north unit’s Tarakanda upazila unit member Masud Rana Khan on the same ground, the press release said.

The party’s leaders and activists have been requested not to keep any contact with them, the release added.
