Police arrested a bullet-hit drug peddler after a reported gunfight at Gaochulka in Hatibandha upazila of Lalmonirhat early Saturday.
The injured, Abdul Jalil, 38, son of late Anwar Hossain, a resident of Gotamari village of the upazila was arrested during a nationwide anti-drug drive.
At least 166 suspected drug peddlers were killed during the ongoing countrywide anti-drug drive since May 15. Most of them were killed in ‘gunfights’ with the police and the RAB.
Hatibandha police station officer-in-charge Omar Faruk said they, being informed, conducted a drive at Gaochulka area around 2:30am.
Sensing presence of the police, Jalil along with his associates opened fire on police personnel, forcing them to fire back for self-defence.
After the gun-battle, police arrested bullet-hit Jalil with 10 kilograms of hemp.
Sub-inspector Sanjoy Kumar and constable Sattajit Roy were also injured during the ‘gunfight’.
Ruhul was wanted in six drug-related cases, police said.
