Wrong treatment kills minor girl in Ctg

Rafia Khan, 2 and a half year old , died at a private clinic in the port city of Chittagong on Friday night due to wrong treatment, her father Dainik Samokal’s senior correspondent in Chittagong Rubel Khan said.
After her death at Max Hospital and Diagnostic Limited, the police picked up and detained on duty doctor Debashish and a nurse.
They were later released.
Rubel Khan said that his daughter was admitted to the Max Hospital on Thursday afternoon with severe pain in her throat.
On Friday night as her
condition deteriorated she was given antibiotics after which her condition deteriorated further, said Rubel Khan.
After the hospital authorities were informed about her condition they suggested for calling child specialist Bidhan Barua, he said.
Bidhan Barua prescribed the same antibiotics after taking which Raifa developed hysteria.
He said, ‘after we informed on duty doctor Debashish about her condition he pushed Sedil injection on her as Bidhan prescribed. And immediately Raifa became listless.’
After her death journalists rushed to the hospital and police detained the duty doctor and nurse.
Suddenly Bangladesh Medical Association’s Chittagong chapter general secretary Faisal Iqbal went to the Chawkbazarr police station with his colleagues.
Chowkbazar police station’s officer in charge Abul Kalam said that doctor Debashis and the nurse confirmed that the child died after a wrong injection was administered on her.
Doctor Debashis and the nurse were released following discussions between the BMA leaders, the police and the journalists after the local BMA leaders threatened that they would stop providing any medical service in Chittagong including to journalists.
A five-member probe committee headed by civil surgeon Azizur Rahman Siddiqui was formed at the meeting attended by representatives of the Chittagong Union of Journalists, BMA and the police.
The probe committee has been asked to submit its report within five days.
On Saturday, the probe committee visited the hospital.
The Chittagong chapter of Consumers Association Bangladesh on Saturday demanded exemplary punishment of faltering doctors.
Outraged over doctors’ endemic wrong treatments CUJ held a protest demonstration and demanded immediate punishment of the culprits. They also demanded closure of the Max Hospital in Chittagong.
