A court in Chandour on Tuesday sentenced three people to death for killing a young man in 2013.
The convicts are — Akter Hossain, Khalilur Rahman and Russel Elahi alias Abdur Rahman of Haimchar upazila. They were tried in absentia.
According to the prosecution, Sohel Khan, son of Alam Khan of Bajapti in Haimchar, paid the convicts Tk 1.50 lakh in advance for buying a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in 2013.
At one stage of altercation over delay in handing over the three-wheeler, the convicts killed Sohel on April 16, 2013 and dumped the body in a char.
Police recovered the body the following day.
Victim’s father Alam Khan filed a case with the Haimchar police on April.
Police arrested Akter over the murder but he escaped after being released on bail.
After examining the records and witnesses, District and Session’s Judge Zulfikar Ali Khan handed down the verdict.
