Dozens injured as train catches fire at Gazipur

Dozens of people were injured trying to jump off a running train on Thursday afternoon as a fire broke out on it in Doripara area of Kaliganj.

Witnesses said, around 5:00pm the fire occurred on the joining pipe of two bogies of Noakhali-bound Upakul Express.

Scared passengers started to jump off the running train as the smoke engulfed the adjacent bogies, injuring at least 50 people, according to witnesses.

At one stage the train stopped at Arikhola station, under Kaliganj upazila of the district.

On information, Kaliganj fire service rushed to the spot and doused the flame after half-an-hour effort, said Kaliganj fire service officer Abdus Sattar.

The cause of the fire could not be known immediately.
