The Jatiya Party chief and prime minister Sheikh Hasina’s special envoy, HM Ershad, said on Friday that he did not understand the reason behind jailed Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s refusal to go to Combined Military Hospital for treatment.
‘She was a member of the army family. She can receive treatment from there. The selection of hospital is not justified,’ the former military dictator said while speaking to reporters at the Rangpur Circuit House.
He reached Rangpur on the day on a three-day trip.
‘I was kept in jail for six years. I did not find even physicians let alone hospital. BNP government wanted my death. But God saved me,’ Ershad continued.
Ershad supported the ongoing anti-drug drive but added that ‘drug kings were spared in the drive and only the small fishes were being killed.’
Ershad said he had no sympathy for the deaths of those, who had destroyed the life of the youth dealing drugs.
Ersahd also termed the position of ruling Awami League in the upcoming city corporation polls in Gajipur, Sylhet, Barisal and Rajshahi as good and predicted their win.
JP secretary general, ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, presidium member, Ziauddin Ahamed Bablu were among others to accompany Ershad at Rangpur.
