A 35-year-old man committed suicide after killing his two children near his home in village Tulatoli under Raipura in Narsingdi early Friday after he on Thursday lost a case he had filed to realise money given to a manpower recruiting agent.
Local people spotted the bodies of Kajal Molla, an auto-rickshaw driver, hanging from a tree and his two kids — eight-year-old daughter Sharmin Akhter Kakoli and five-year-old son Abdullah Sohel on the bank of a nearby pond in the morning and informed police.
They said that clothes of the three were wet.
Raipura Police Station inspector (investigation) Lutfor Rahman said that they recovered the bodies and sent them to Narsingdi General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.
He that said Kajal might have drowned his two children and then committed suicide out of frustration at his failure to realise Tk 6.5 lakh he had given to a broker two years ago for going abroad.
Quoting family members, he said, Kajal also fell in debt after giving money to the broker in Kishoreganj, Ruhul Amin, to go abroad two years ago by selling lands and taking loans from acquaintances.
As he failed to go abroad and the broker did not pay his money, he lodged a case against Ruhul with a court in Narsingdi about one year ago but the verdict in the case on Thursday went against him for lack of witness, Lutfor said.
Kajal’s wife Fahima Khanom told reporters that she had a quarrel with her husband on Thursday night over the money and then, about 10:30pm, her husband left home with their two children.
