Nine killed in Nilphamari road crash

41 killed in 21 traffic accidents in four days

Nine people were killed and eight were injured as a pick-up van crashed into a bus on bypass road at Syedpur upazila in Nilphamari on Sunday.
With the accident, 41 people were killed and 13 more were injured in 21 traffic accidents between Friday and Monday in 16 districts across the country.
Syedpur police station officer-in-charge Md Shahjahan said that the accident took place at about 10:00pm on Sunday.
All the victims, aged between 15 and 20, were passengers of the pick-up van and from Gorgram
union of Nilphamari Sadar Upazila.
Four of them were identified as Md Maruf, Shamim, Nur Islam and Al-Amin.
They were returning home from a picnic spot in Dinajpur on the pick-up van violating the ban on carrying passenger on goods-laden vehicles, police officials said.
On Monday three people were killed and five were injured in traffic accidents in Jhenaidah and Magura.
New Age correspondent in Jhenaidah reported that a motorcyclist was killed as a microbus hit his bike from behind near Jhenaidah town on Jhenaidah-Kushtia highway at about Monday noon.
United News of Bangladesh reported that Mamtaj Ali, 42, and his daughter Sumaiya, 7, of Harispur village in Khalisha upazila, died on the spot and five were injured as a Jashore-bound bus crashed into a three-wheeler at Kestapur under sadar upazila in Magura at about 3:00pm on Monday.
On Sunday 11 people were killed in Tangail, Noakhali, Thakurgaon, Barisal, Comilla and Cox’s Bazar traffic accidents.
New Age Correspondent in Tangail reported that three riders of a motorbike, aged between 17 and 18, were killed as a bus ran over them at Salla under Kalihati upazila in the district, also on the East of Bangabandhu Bridge, at about 2:30pm, said Bangabandhu Bridge East police station officer-in-charge M Mosharaf

In Noakhali driver and two passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw were killed in a head-on a collision between a bus and the auto-rickshaw on Laksam-Sonaimuri road at Rampur at about 10:00am.
In Thakurgaon two motorcyclists died on the spot in a head-on collision between a minibus and their motorcycle at Mathurapur in Thaukrgaon at about 3:00pm on Sunday.
New Age correspondent in Barisal reported that another motorcyclist died on the spot as his motorcycle crashed into a car on Dhaka-Barisal highway at Babuganj point at about 2:30pm.
Two pedestrians were killed in traffic accidents at Kalakachua in Burichang upazila on Dhaka-Chittagong Highway and Purba Hindupara under sadar upazila in Cox’s Bazar after vehicles ran over them on Sunday.
On Saturday 10 people were killed in Manikganj, Jhenaidah, Magura, Rangpur, Feni and Naogaon.
Four motorcyclists and one co-rider died in four traffic accidents at Joka under Ghior in Manikganj, at Kaliganj upazila town in Jhenaidah, at Panchmile in Magura and at Bakrail in Naogaon.
Rangpur Kotwali police station officer-in-charge Babul Mia said that two unidentified pedestrians were killed as they were run over by a bus at Hazirhat in Rangpur city.
A car passenger was killed as the car crashed into a roadside tree at Angrar bridge area under Pirganj upazila.
In Feni, two pedestrians were killed as they were hit by a car at Zero point of Daganbhuiyan town.
UNB reported that eight people were killed in Chittagong, Sylhet and Chandpur traffic accidents.
In Chittagong, six people, including three members of a family, were killed in three accidents in Sahgodi Nimtoli area of Patiya upazila and on Dhaka-Chittagong highway at Shuklal Hat in Barabkunda and Madambibir Hat of Sitakunda upazila.
In Sylhet, an elderly woman died after being slipped off a human-hauler while getting down from it at Roypur and in Chandpur, a hawker was killed after falling off a rickshaw when a car hit it, police officials said.
