3 more PCJSS, UPDF faction leaders shot dead

12 CHT-based party leaders killed in 45 days

Three more activists of Parbatya Chattagram Janasanghati Samity (MN Larma) and United People’s Democratic Front (Democratic) were shot dead at their homes in hill districts of Rangamati and Khagrachari between Friday and Sunday.
The murders took to 12 the number of leaders and activists of Chittagong Hill Tracts-based regional political parties killed allegedly by rivals in 45 days since May 3.
Baghaichhari police station officer-in-charge Amir Hossain, quoting local people, said that unnamed assailants stormed into PCJSS (MN Larma) member Suren Bikash Chakma’s house at Milonpur under Baghaichhari upazila in Rangamati Sunday evening and shot him to death.
Panchhari police station officer-in-charge Mizanur Rahman said that PCJSS (MN Larma) member Bijay Tripura was shot to death at his village home at Payingpara under Panchari upazila in Khagrachari Saturday afternoon.
The police officer, quoting local people, said that a group of unnamed assailants stormed into Bijay’s house and shot him from close distance at about 3:00pm.
United News of Bangladesh reported that UPDF (Democratic) activist Boli Chakma was shot to death and another was injured in a reported gunfight between two factions of UPDF in Dosarpara Steel Bridge area under Langadu upazila in Rangamati on Friday.
Langdu Police Station officer-in-charge Ranjan Samanta said that two rival groups of UPDF exchanged gunshots over establishing supremacy in the morning, leaving Boli killed on the spot and Sumati injured.
On May 3, at least three assailants shot Nannerchar upazila parishad chairman Shaktiman Chakma, also vice-president of PCJSS-MN Larma, in front of his office at the upazila headquarters.
On the following day, assailants ambushed and killed UPDF (Democratic) chief Tapan Jyoti Chakma, three of his associates and their hired driver on Khagrachari-Rangamati road at Bethchari on their way to the funeral of Shaktiman Chakma.
On May 28, three UPDF members were shot dead and another was injured at Korolyachari under Baghaichari upazila in Rangamati.
