Chittagong district administration on Wednesday evacuated around 100 families form different hills where people were living at risk of life.
Additional deputy commissioner (revenue) of Chittagong Md Delwar Hossain led the drive at the city’s AK Khan Hill and PWD Colony of Batali Hill to avert landslide casualty against the backdrop of Tuesday’s death of 12 people in Rangamati and Cox’s Bazar in landslide caused by heavy rain.
During the drive the administration demolished 45 shanties which were built illegally at the hill top.
They evacuated families were taken to seven shelter centres opened for people living in different hill pockets of Chittagong risking their lives.
During the drive, assistant commissioners of land Abdullah Al Monsur of Sadar circle, Sabbir Rahman Sani of Chadgaon circle and Sharmin Akhter of Agrabad cicle were present among others.
ADC said that the drive would be continued.
Earlier, on Monday local administration of Chittagong conducted drive in nine hills of Chittagong. These were Motijhorna hill, Pura Colony hill,
Amin Jute Mill hill, Tankir hill, Miar hill, Khulshi hill, Jalalabad hill and Akbar Shah hill.
During the drive, they demolished 140 makeshift houses and moved 490 families to safer place.
They disconnected the power and other utility connections. They also dismantled two brick built houses completely which were built in hills.
