Police foiled an iftar party arranged by Harirampur Upazila Parishad chairman and Bangladesh Nationalist Party leader Mohammad Saiful Huda Chowdhury Shatil on Wednesday.
The program was scheduled to be held at Saiful Huda’s newly built residence at Gobindal Jadurchar village in Singair Municipality.
Mohammad Saiful Huda Chowdhury Shatil alleged that the party was thrown for about three thousand people on the premise of his house and he also had police permission for the programme.
But, a police team, led by SI Anwar Hossain and SI Russell, showed up at 3:30pm asked him to halt the programme, said Saiful Huda.
Police members also behaved indecently with members of the organising committee. At one stage, the police broke the stage and took it away.
The cops violated the law by vandalising the stage even after giving permission for the programme, claimed the chairman.
He also said that he as a citizen of an independent country preserved the right to organise an iftar party in his house.
But, cops denied the right by vandalising the arrangement.
Manikganj superintendent of police Rifat Rahman Shamim said Saiful Huda Chowdhury Shatil was allowed to inaugurate the newly built residence, but later they were informed that the chairman was going to hold a political programme.
The programme was thwarted as police feared that that might deteriorate the law and order situation, he added.
