A traffic inspector of Bangladesh Railway, who was hit by a stone pelted on a moving train in Khulna, died Monday evening after long battle at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.
Forty-two days after the accident, Biojid Shikdar died around 7:00pm at the hospital, said railway officials.
Railway already filed a case in this regard and at least one was arrested over the incident.
According to railway, Biojid was working as a traffic inspector in Khulna and a resident of Bagherhat.
BR chief operating superintendent (west) AMM Shahnewaz told New Age that on April 30 Biojid was on duty in Benapole Commuter train on Benapole-Khulna route.
While the train was going to Khulna, miscreants threw stones at the moving train at Daulatpur station which hit Biojid in the head, he said.
The injured was taken to Square Hospital in the capital on the same day and later shifted to BSMMUH, where he died.
Railways minister Md Mazibul Hoque gave Tk 1 lakh for Biojid’s treatment at first and Tk 1 lakh more to his family after his death, officials said.
About 2,000 people were victims of such stone-pelting in moving trains across the country in the past five years, BR statistics showed.
The victims included 14 BR officials while sometimes the cases turned into fatal accidents.
