A new gallery named Jothashilpa began its journey in capital’s Adabor area through a week-long group show featuring paintings and handicraft items on Saturday.
The exhibition is showcasing handicraft items like clay flower vases of various designs, shokher hari featuring rural motifs, terracotta works, bamboo crafts, nakshi kantha, sheetal pati and others.
Rickshaw paintings featuring old posters of Bangla films, paintings of film posters where human figures have been replaced with animal figures and pata chitra paintings featuring Bengal tigers are being displayed at the show.
Jothashilpa has collected the displayed paintings from different artists including artist Nazir Hossain, who is known for his pata chitra paintings featuring Bengal tigers.
Besides, some collage paintings done by the children of Peace Home, an organisation working for welfare of street children which is run by Local Education and Economic Development Organisation, is also being displayed at the show.
Teacher of department of sculpture at faculty of fine arts of Dhaka University Nasimul Khabir, founder of Jothashilpa Shaon Anand, popular singer Rahul Anand and others were present at the inauguration ceremony of the week-long show.
The show, which began on June 9, will remain open till June 16.
