Husband, 2nd wife sent to jail in Mahila League leader murder

A Chandpur court on Tuesday sent the husband and his second wife to jail in connection with the murder of Shahin Sultana Fancy, a central Mahila League leader.
Shahin Sultana Fancy, 50, principal of Gollak Degree College and wife of lawyer Zahirul Islam, was found dead at her residence in Sholaghar area of Faridganj upazila Monday night.
Later, police detained the victim’s 58-year old husband who was a former president of Chandpur Bar Association, said inspector Mohiuddin of the Detective Branch of police.
Following the statement made by the husband, the police also arrested his second wife Julekha Begum at Najirpara in the district town on the same night, he added.
Forkan Uddin, brother of the victim, filed a case accusing four people including Zahirul and Julekha with Chandpur model police station on Tuesday.
The two other accused were Zahirul’s brother Khairul Islam Nayan, 34, and his sister Janu Begum, 48.
There had been a dispute between the couple as Zahirul married Julekha Begum several years ago without the consent of his first wife Shahin, said the police.
