Two minor girls drown in river in Sylhet

Two minor girls drowned in the River Barbhaga in Sylhet Tuesday morning.
The dead body of one of the victims was recovered but another was still missing, police said.
Local people said that four children including Tawhida Begum, 7, daughter of Sultan Miah, of Alipur village at Osmani Nagar upazila, and Marufa Begum, 6, daughter of Jalal Miah of the same village, went to the River Barbhaga near their village to take bath around 8:00am.
At one stage of swimming, Tawhida and Marufa sank in the river water, they said.
Heard screaming of the rest two companions of the victims, locals went to the spot and recovered the dead body of Tawhida from the river water while Marufa went missing, police said.
Osmani Nagar police station officer-in-charge Mohammad Shahid Ullah said that they conducted a rescue operation in help of the divers of Tajpur Fire Service Station since noon but the missing girl could not be traced.
